NSUK Convocation: VC Addresses World Press Conference.





As part of the line up for Saturday's Convocation ceremony, the Vice Chancellor of Nasarawa State University, Keffi, Professor Muhammad Akaro Mainoma while addressing a World Press Conference today at the Senate Chambers revealed some of the snippets of what to expect from the much anticipated event.
The Vice Chancellor confirmed that over 30,000 graduands across seven sets will convocate on Saturday.
Professor Mainoma said despite the many challenges that confront the University, the institution has grown from its little beginning when it had just 473 in 2002 to a staggering 17,641 today.
The Vice Chancellor used the opportunity to also reveal that the number of academic programmes have also grown from 19 in 2002 to 54 in 2017.
According to the Vice Chancellor,“In addition, Faculties rose from 3 as at the time of take-off to 7 as at 2017. Just recently, a new Faculty - Faculty of Environmental Sciences was established bringing the total number of Faculties to 8”,he added.
Post-Graduate programmes have similarly increased to 195 within the period under review, with 40 of the programmes instituted in the last 3 years Professor Mainoma has been in charge.
He noted that research has been “a core mandate” of the University whereupon he created the Directorate of Research and Documentation to coordinate and report various research activities in the University.
Presently, three Faculties are engaged in researches worth over $20 million, he said.
 On staff, the Vice Chancellor said between 2006 to 2017, “the University appointed 50 home grown Professors from the ranks of its lecturers”.
In all, the University boosts of 1,124 staff strength shared into 523 academics and 601 non teaching staff.
The Convocation formerly kicks off tomorrow, 5th May, 2017 with the installation of the Chancellor and the Convocation lecture, to be delivered by Interior Minister, Abdulrahaman Danbazau by 4pm at the Assembly Hall.
