According to DailyStar, the Automated Teller Machine had banknotes worth over a million rupees. The wads of cash which were eaten by the pesky rodents are reportedly worth N17,000,000. It was gathered officials were able to salvage a wad of cash worth 8,000 pounds which is worth N3,796,320. DailyStar revealed that the machine had reportedly been reported for being faulty on May 20, but engineers did not fix it until June 11.

According to police investigation, the rats could have entered the machine through an wire hole. However, the management of the Indian bank believe there was something else behind the incident. A spokesman said: “The carcass of a rat was found among the shredded notes." The spokesman stated that the ATM repair service shouldn't have taken as long as it took to repair the machine.

“This three week period marks an unusually long time for an ATM to be out of service. People are suspicious as to why it took so long for the mechanics to arrive.” However, the police stated that no other evidence has been found aside from the one that leads to rats.

A police spokesman said: “We have not found any evidence of involvement from a bank official or any other outsider.”
